So what is this Happiness Principle 3  all about?

Do you ever have stillness and silence in your life?

It seems to be a lost art for many of us today.

Is ‘I just don’t have time’ a common mantra for you these days? Or perhaps, ‘I can’t meditate.’

Everyone knows how to meditate. I’d like to shatter the myth of sitting cross legged, chanting for hours as being the only way to meditate. Yes, it’s one form, but know this:  you’ve already had moments of meditation in your life without even realising.

Meditation to me, or ‘plugging in’ to that stillness and silence within you, is simply when you have been able to switch off the exterior world for a few minutes.

Someone said to me the other day, that they love folding the washing straight off the clothesline. They love the smell of it, they love the deliberateness of folding each item. It reminded them of their childhood, watching their mother do it.  Hey, we’re not all the same, but I bet there’s something that you do where you ‘zone out’ for a while.

It’s worth paying attention to these moments, and congratulating yourself.  Whacko-de-diddleo!  I’m meditating!

Here’s is the simplest way to shut out the exterior world, and no matter how busy you are, you can do it a couple of times a day.  When we get in touch with this powerful and intelligent source inside of us, our life changes. Decisions become easier, emotions are more easily handled, and a peaceful happy life is more likely than if you try to get all the answers from the external world.

Stop, close your eyes and breathe in. Then breath out. Do this for five minutes. It’s simple, and if you do it a couple of times a day, you’ll notice a shift in your life.

It’s time to stop and smell the roses, as they say!  So take time to potter around your garden. Sit and gaze at something beautiful. Get comfortable with silence without tuning into the TV, radio and computer.  I know it’s automatic for me to switch on the radio as soon as I get in the car.  I’m training myself to not do this.

The benefits of ‘plugging in’ are massive, and well documented. Not only will you sleep better, float through your day without struggle, achieve more, and be nicer to be around:) ,you will also be doing your body a huge favour. Have a look at this list of 100 benefits of meditation.
